Hawaii Army National Guard Unit Prevention Leader (UPL) Certification Training 2022

Eleven Soldiers from the Hawaii Army National Guard (HIARNG) graduated from the Unit Prevention Leader (UPL) course, Pearl City, Hawaii. The UPL Certification Training includes instruction on drug testing procedures and illicit drug use prevention. The Department of Defense Appoints Dr. Liz Clark as New Director, Defense Suicide Prevention Office

Liz Clark, Ed.D., has been appointed to the Senior Executive Service as the director of the Defense Suicide Prevention Office, a component of the Defense Human Resources Activity, attached to the Office of Force Resiliency for policy direction. Clark will oversee the development of DOD nonclinical programs that promote and enhance suicide prevention, intervention and postvention, with the goal of reducing the stigma of seeking treatment and increasing awareness of sources of assistance.

Fort Stewart’s SHARP Program Manager Discusses New SHARP Directive

Army Directive 2022-13 is one of a series whose purpose is to make SHARP reporting easier by streamlining reporting services. It allows the first colonel in the chain of command to issue military protective orders to protect the complainant from the accused and from retaliation from peers. Investigating officers now must be from outside the brigade to ensure transparency and to keep commanding officers from appearing to protect the accused. What’s more, to build faith in the reporting and accountability processes, the directive formalizes publication of the results of Uniform Code of Military Justice actions.

Ohio Native, Army Brain Health, Trauma and PTS Change-Maker Is Promoted

After returning from service in Baghdad, Iraq, U.S. Army Col. Robert Brutcher, of Lakewood, Ohio, decided to get a doctorate in physiology and pharmacology, focusing on post-traumatic stress (PTS) and substance abuse. He was eager to focus his career on helping other service members fight the struggles and stigmas associated with mental illnesses, including PTS. The pharmacist was recently promoted to colonel, after 18 years of military service.
