FAP, Community Partners Rehearse Protocols for Suspected Child Abuse Cases

The room was packed at Murr Community Center as representatives from several military and community agencies came together to rehearse the legal protocols and investigation of suspected child abuse cases. Organized by the Family Advocacy Program, the event included officials from Team Huachuca partners, including the Directorate of Emergency Services, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, Army Criminal Investigation Division, Sierra Vista Police Department and the Arizona Department of Child Safety.

Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks Visits Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies

Deputy Secretary of Defense Dr. Kathleen Hicks visited Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, to gain a deeper understanding of the quality-of-life issues service members in the Arctic face, to receive operational updates and to visit the Ted Stevens Center for Arctic Security Studies. Hicks met with service members and toured quality-of-life facilities, including childcare and health care centers, to see how local leaders are addressing service members’ needs and to assess whether the department should adjust policies to further improve life for Soldiers. These improvements are part of a wider community-based approach to boosting mental health and reducing harmful behaviors like death by suicide.

U.S. Army Garrison Japan Uses Innovative Method for Delivering Community Information

U.S. Army Garrison Japan officials recently launched an initiative to more effectively deliver news and information to the community. For the first time, the garrison hosted a community information exchange along with a bazaar to appeal to the 400-plus shoppers who visited the Camp Zama Community Club. Shaun Ally, chief of the DFMWR Community Recreation Division, said there were 12 information tables at the bazaar, including one for the Army Substance Abuse Program.
